Reading Prep
ACT
This is the third section of the ACT test. It consists of 40 questions completed in 35 minutes. These 40 questions are broken down into four sections each containing ten questions. The four reading sections have specific topic areas: prose, social science, humanities and natural science. Within these sections there will be five types of questions: understanding main ideas, locating details, using vocabulary, interpreting purpose and inferring ideas.

SAT
This is the first section of the SAT test. It consists of 52 questions completed in 65 minutes. These 52 questions are broken down into five sections containing 10 to 12 questions per passage. The five reading sections will contain passages of 500-750 words. One or two passages will contain a graphic, chart, or table. One section will have paired passages on the same topic or theme. Within these reading sections, there will be eight types of questions: understanding main ideas, locating details, using vocabulary, interpreting purpose, inferring ideas, finding supporting evidence, determining author techniques and interpreting data.
